Working Hours

Post by seeker019 »

I'm full time (40hrs).
Now our manager has informed us that RM want to change our contracts to 35 hrs a week, wait for it, Then we bank the extra hours for winter or heavy periods so no-one claims overtime, you're only claiming from banked hours :so there .

Is this a new Flexability ruling to cover seasonal work?????

Seems like a Pay Cut to me :cfo

What happens to banked hours if you can't use them?

Sounds like RM BS to me. I wouldn't even think about allowing them to change your contracted hours. How much do you stand to lose. Holiday pay, any sick pay, allowances, pension. NO NO NO!

Tell him you'll work 45 hours a week, bank the hours and take week off every 8 weeks - that sounds fair to me.

it is definetly waffle he is trying it on:

to Quote from the Agreement:

5. PHASE 4

To assist development of a fourth Phase of Royal Mail modernisation, consultation and negotiation will now take place in the following working groups. The intention is for these joint working groups to develop national agreements, where appropriate, by no later than the end of April 2008, to be deployed as soon as possible thereafter.

Joint Working Group 2 – New Reward Framework will examine pay simplification possibilities (within the existing pay bill), a new pay and reward package, different pay models, reviewing on what the local element of the ColleagueShare dividend for years 2 and 3 will be based and MTSF. The Group will also consider how to implement monthly pay. It will also review annualised hours or banked hours, flexible working, and possible changes to attendance patterns that could both benefit the business and employees and is in line with the company’s family-friendly policy. The group will decide whether it needs to operate sub groups for any element of this.

So nothing is agreed yet -

No Way! should you consider this. This would probably have an impact on your pension, RM full time hours are 40 not 35, therefore, you maybe classed as a part time worker losing alot of money off your pension. Legally RM cannot force you to do 35 hours, they will be breaching you contract if they do this. If RM do state that 35 hours will a classed as full time and this is in writing and agreed by the CWU and you remain on the same pay, this is not too bad, however, I would get some good legal advice

Was it a spelling mistake?

Annualised hours only work in a system where there are set start and finish times that change seasonally - in our job where mail volume fluctuates from day to day and may not even drop seasonally the flexing of hours to accommodate theories will not work and may be regarded as simply another way of reducing our wages for the work that we do.

When will Royal Mails idea clowns realise that all the flexibility and compliance they need is already built into the job in the shape of the goodwill that we exercise on a daily basis by not working strictly to the rule book that THEY wrote ?

Any forced implementation of annualised hours that involve a loss of income should therefore result in the loss of whatever goodwill remains and the consequential employment of yet more managers to deliver the post miles from their home areas.

Surely what RM are trying to do should be spelt differently - ANALISED
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

This does not suprise me at all. This will not be the first or last time RM management try it on. This is the new approach now, get people to work for less money, sack 'em if you can and get a bonus for doing it.

Our manager has been told to STOP working longer hours because it is reflecting badly on the other managers in the office. f***ing nonsense if you ask me...................
