Copeland MP Trudy Harrison has paid tribute to Royal Mail workers in her constituency to mark National Postal Workers Day.

Mrs Harrison commended postal workers, who have kept delivering mail during the Covid-19 crisis, for their commitment.

Today marks the ninth annual National Postal Workers Day.

Mrs Harrison said: "All postal workers who serve our communities throughout the country are doing a vital job.

"I want to thank all postal workers who collect, sort and deliver letters, parcels and packets to 29 million addresses, six days a week, particularly during this crisis."

Last year, Mrs Harrison joined local posties on their daily rounds as part of a campaign to Walk in Your Postie’s Shoes.

Mrs Harrison added: “Our wonderful post team in Copeland has adapted seamlessly continuing to deliver our daily post during the current lockdown.

"Post Offices across Cumbria are a lifeline for many people and businesses, particularly in rural areas.

"These key workers provide a lifeline to our households at a time when a family card is so important, and deliveries of essential items mean more than ever before."
