Can anybody confirm the policy fir ysing your own vehicle.Some confusion in our office, got told something different yestetday form rep ti wot they said today.Asked manager did not seem that clued up.Is there a proper legal document.i know cwu where trying to things changed.

RM_CWU have a TEMPORARY agreement to allow use of your own car during the crisis. It is only to be used for getting to your starting point. No mail to be carried in your vehicle.

There's a form to fill in for Royal Mail insurance but this will cover you for THIRD PARTY ONLY. Otherwise you will need your own business insurance.

There is a link to the agreement buried somewhere within RMC.

dont do it.....
i drive the van....been given a partner that drives his car to each starting point of the next loop.

i hear other pairs do similar but then jump into the van as a pair as soon as they reach there walks....upto them...

took me a week or 2 but now my partner does a loop for me whilst i drive around with the big parcels.

i watch him claim petrol money for about 20 mile a week.....
they asked me to use my car i refused.

in my area there have been a couple of guys caught sharing the van and they have been suspended.royal mail charging them with gross misconduct. our union rep says they will be sacked

Well van sharing is OFFICIALLY out at the moment...using your own car isn't...

Don't use your car!

Use the time it takes you to walk to each loop and knock it off your delivery time or claim for overtime.

Using your car will only speed you up and royal mail will gain and not you.

Absolutely agree, upper RM management must be pissing themselves laughing at the amount of posties using their own cars instead of their employer spending money providing the tools for the job by hiring extra vans, fkin idiots walk amongst us !

I use my own car at the moment because it suits me. Drive to starting point, get my first bag and my other bags are dropped at a box for me. Once I'm done I go straight home (agreed with dom). I haven't had a RM driving assessment as I was covering callers office since I started in Nov. Doms fault so thats why he's agreed I can go home instead of back to office. Btw ,I actually have business insurance but I didn't think to tell him...

I'm assuming this means those who have done the changeover, therefore you shouldn't be using your vehicle car at all - try saying '...well it's the DOM's fault....'
when you're involved in an accident and your insurance company wants to know why you were using your own vehicle when you shouldn't have been
and RM's insurers are not interested......

That position has now changed.

Further to previous communications covering the use of private cars to reach delivery points, we have now extended this arrangement to cover workers who do not normally drive a Royal Mail van.

This means that the non-driving partner on a shared duty can use their own car to drive to the first delivery point and along the route, where required. Where this is applicable, drivers will be subject to the same licence checking, health declaration and training arrangements, as are temporarily in place for driving Royal Mail vans.

Temporary controls for the use of private vehicles on delivery have been introduced and should be read in full here.

These controls apply to any private vehicle used to get to delivery points, and in order that we comply with our legal requirements to ensure the safety of our employees, it is important that all of these controls are followed. However, in particular, please follow these requirements:

This is limited to the use of private cars or vans – the use of motorcycles, cycles, e-scooters etc, is not permitted.
Mail must not be carried in private vehicles.
Drivers must have been trained, either on-road (for existing drivers) or using the temporary e-learning product.
The usual vehicle checks must be completed.
Collisions in private vehicles on delivery must be reported using the usual ERICA process and investigated following the usual Road Traffic Accident Procedure Agreement applicable to your business unit.
