A POSTIE was on the receiving end for a change after a seven-year-old girl gave him a "heartwarming" drawing and note for her community hero.

Little Sophie Arundel hailed Jim Taylor as "very brave" and said she wanted to "make him smile" after learning he was still delivering the mail throughout the coronavirus outbreak.

The man of many letters was almost lost for words and admitted he was touched by her kindness.

Jim, 59, said: "I deliver down at the newer houses in Rosyth, near the Sainsbury's store, and last Wednesday morning I came to a door that had an envelope sellotaped to it with 'Postie take this' on it!

"I opened it up and there was a wee drawing and a note from a seven-year-old girl.

"It made me feel very happy that people out there appreciate the job we do."

Sophie's note read: "Dear Postman, thank you for delivering the post to everyone, and for my art box.

"I think you are very brave. Thank you, from Sophie."

Jim said: "I've never had a drawing given to me before and I've been a postie for 34 years now.

"For a child to think of us at this time, it was just brilliant. It was really heartwarming.

"It doesn't cost anything and it was such a nice gesture.

"I'd just like to say thank you to Sophie."

Proud dad Neil explained: "Kings Road Primary had set tasks for home learning at the beginning of the week and the second task was to write a letter to a community hero that was still working and helping you.

"That day, the postman had delivered a craft box and my wife, Rachel, had told our children they couldn't touch it until she had wiped it down as we had recently learned the virus can live on hard surfaces.

"Sophie got upset and and said: 'Oh no, the postman'.

"She decided to write a letter as part of the school learning pack to the postman "because he puts himself at risk with the virus everyday and he brings nice things like craft boxes to people".

"The next day, we had taped it to the letter box with 'Postman, please take this'.

"She got really excited and was shouting: 'He took it, he took it' and had a massive smile on her face.

"She was so pleased he had it and just wanted to make him smile, like he had made her smile by bringing the craft box."
