Schoolboy Ben Parr is so happy to still receive letters during the coronavirus pandemic that he's been finding ways to thank his family's postal delivery workers.

The six-year-old has started leaving thank-you notes in the window of the family's Chell home in the hope of putting a smile on the face of a postman or postwoman each morning.

His mum, Katie Wood, said: "He said he wanted make them smile as they are all working while the coronavirus is out there. He's also been drawing stay safe pictures for our family. It's all about making people happy.

"Yesterday was the first morning the postwoman had seen it as we put it up the previous day after the postie had been. He ran to the door and we could hear her reading it.

"We saw her walk off and the smile on her face was amazing to see. Ben said to me after she had been that it had made the postwoman smile, which made him happy."

Ben, who has an eight-month-old sister, Emily, was waiting by the door this morning as soon as he saw a postal van pull up outside so that he could watch his letter being read through the window.

Proud mum Katie, aged 27, is a warehouse operative for National Veterinary Services.

The letter reads: "Dear postman or postwoman. Thank you for working hard doing your job so we can keep safe at home. You are heroes too. Love from number 15, Ben and Emily."
