Could someone highlight the guidelines around snow conditions stopping delivery please?

I understand if you don’t get in, you don’t get paid

However I made it to our office Friday & Saturday, sorted and prepped walks. No delivery was made. Went him at around 10:30 each day as no more work to do. If you stayed til 14:30 we’ve been told you’ll be paid, if you left, you won’t, or will have to make time up.

Other than just sitting at my frame for 4hrs there wasn’t anything else to do.

Unfortunately unless your directed to go home as there’s no more work, then you won’t get paid unless you stay to the end.

The link above on the rules about snow was interesting in particular the 3 mile & 2 mile rule.

The rules are explained very clearly in the link but I think yet again they will be interpreted by different DOMs in different ways. We had snow on the Thursday night going into Friday so our DOM decided, probably along with others in the area, that we could not go out in the vans and deliver as it was not safe. We prepped all the walks and we have one town walk immediately outside the DO so that walk was delivered collectively by all of us. Then we were sent home as there was no more work to do.
On the following day, Saturday, the snow, and maybe more so the ice, was judged by our DOM to still not be safe to deliver as normal. We prepped all the walks and were sent out two posties to a van to deliver just the SDs, Tracked items, and any large ordinary parcels but nothing else. After doing this we were told to go home.
We will be paid in full for the Friday and Saturday but we have a sort of unwritten agreement that we will do our best to get everything delivered on Monday. If we had the decision to make we would have gone out on delivery as usual on Saturday and would deliver where we could get to. We tried to argue the toss but had to concede to our DOMs decision.
I think most of the other nearby DOs to us worked in a similar way. At one other DO nearby only half the staff arrived at the DO on the Friday. At another nearby office on the Friday the DOM tried to send posties out on delivery and the union had to step in to stop it. A local person who works at a MC or similar place came to our DO due to the snow so they would still get paid. Their DOM was phoning them up at our DO on their mobile phone hassling them to come to work!
So we will now be delivering virtually three days worth of mail tomorrow. Hopefully it won't be too bad.

Our stand-in DOM has said we have to make up the time from Saturday for going home at 11.

There was talk of not getting paid for going home Friday at 10:30.

There was only 1st mech in Friday, then we got 2 lorries in on Saturday. Everything that came in has been sorted and prepped.
He’s insisting those that stayed til 2:30 would do other indoor work. That appeared to be writing up your walk log, writing out a tie up sheet etc.

There appears to be an argument rising for today because there was no option to take leave etc

That's the trouble with cover DOMs - you never know what they are going to be like and some of them like to follow the rules to the letter. The walk log should already be done(Not that I see anyone ever look at them.)and walk frames should run as per the delivery so there shouldn't be a need for tie up sheets.

That was our argument, everything he said that needed doing was already done. They still maintain that we had things to do.

Today, we got 3 full trays of mech at 8:30 having had 6-8 buddy boxes and 2 trays earlier
