Performance Management Policy

Post by rogersh »

Equality and Fairness Policy VERSION 16 NOVEMBER 2012
Acceptable behaviour
 Talking to employees about their performance
 Providing constructive feedback
 Asking an employee to carry out a task in the workplace
 Providing a constructive opinion when asked
 Taking appropriate action as per the Conduct Policy, the Performance Management Policy or the Improving Performance Policy

As a few of colleagues have been singled out by management recently for "alleged underperformance" I have searched on here for the Performance Management Policy without success.
Is it only available by requesting management via Policy and Information Site on PSP. ?

Performance Management Policy

Boos - You're not working hard enough.

Me - I'm working to the best of my ability.

Boss - I expected better.

Me - Sorry boss my ability obviously don't match your expectations.

Boss - Perhaps we had better discuss this in the Office.

Me - Better invite the Rep and bring along the Performance Policy along with the Equality Policy.

This is sequence of events that happened on Friday
WAM sends male colleague (processing seg)to see shift manager re alleged underperformance
Male colleague returns & says shift manager said "I have nothing to say to you"!
5 mins later;
Acting manager escorts female colleague from the same seg & sends her to the office to see the shift manager.
She returned to say she was told by the shift manager she was talking too much & not sorting to standard expected. ...she then broke down in tears.

A manager has the right to discuss performance with an employee . But this is blatant inequality of staff treatment & I believe the approach is questionable in singling out employees at their work station in front of others to deliberately humiliate.

Performance Management Policy

A good few years ago this happened in my office where a female co worker was berated in front of everybody else and reduced to tears. To cut a long story short she still works there, the manager dosent.There is no agreed sorting standard at RM choose what management claim.

Thanks for response . I have sent details to HR & requested a copy of the performance management policy mentioned in the Equality & Fairness Policy, Which states;

What to do if you have a complaint or concern

Don’t keep it to yourself It is in everyone’s interest for employees to raise concerns they have about their treatment or the treatment of others at work. Concerns should ideally be raised with their manager first.
