signing out and pda actuals
Anyone have any thoughts?
What happens if you get back half hour early, sign the sheet as coming back half hour early, but then stay your remaining time and do indoor work (d2ds etc) then sign out as leaving at your duty time.
Would you be pulled up on it because the pda says you got back early then docked pay even though you stayed and did some indoor work?

Nothing wrong with that, as long as you've got something to show for that half hour how can they dock your pay? Personally in that scenario I'd have the PDA on the frame with me for that 30 mins then walk to the cage and log out of the PDA there at finishing time. At our place the drivers who have collections and have the 'finish' barcode to scan at the end of the shift have already got a photocopy of the barcode taped to their sun-visor's in the van so they scan it in the pub car-park at finishing time. Looking forward to the day they get asked for an explanation for that. It would be so easy now to make everyone scan out on the PDA at finish time and check the satnav to make sure it was in the office. Simplest bit of software to list anyone who scanned out early each day. It would solve half of the problems in the company overnight, but top brass don't want to implement/enforce it for some reason.

Those barcodes are classed as collections, you CANNOT photograph them and they can use the gps to check you're scanning like they do with parcels. People who get caught doing it on collections get sacked.ArthurPewty wrote:Nothing wrong with that, as long as you've got something to show for that half hour how can they dock your pay? I guess all offices are set up the same ? As long as the PDA is powered on it will show you are back at the office as soon as you come back through the gate, if it is powered off it will only do so when you place the PDA in it's cradle

If there is no manager present when you return you can switch your PDA off and clear off, otherwise you are supposed to ask a manager for extra work to take you up to the end of your duty for the day. He/she may be decent and let you go anyway, depends. If you don't do the communication with a manager you leave yourself open to claims you owe them time/money

There is nothing wrong with coming back from delivering your walk and doing things like prepping D2Ds, reordering redirection stickers/checking for expired redirections, doing killoffs, maintenance of your walk frame, vehicle checks or cleaning etc.leolion855 wrote:Anyone have any thoughts?

At the moment our paper signing in sheets are where we register when arriving at work, starting delivery, finishing delivery, and leaving the DO to go home. The PDA/PDA actuals are designed to measure the intricacies of the delivery aspect of the job and not the prep or the job in its entirety. The AHDC when it is implemented will replace the signing in sheets and it sounds like this might start in April. This might be an incentive for posties to start doing the job properly en masse but I won't hold my breath on that one.
So the short answer to your question is we don't need to worry about PDA actuals until the AHDC is in place and RM have all the facts in their hands.

If you believe the PDA actuals are not being studied to find where indoor savings can be made you are very naive

Other than zapping the barcodes on the tracked items to register them as received at the DO the PDA isn't used to do IPS, to prep your D2Ds and mail, do the redirections, bundle up and carry to the van. So it can't really be used to identify indoor savings but the AHDC, depending on how it is set up, will be able to do so. No doubt the PDA actuals have been used in some offices where there are perceived to be problems with the delivery of mail.A2B wrote:If you believe the PDA actuals are not being studied to find where indoor savings can be made you are very naive

You must have different software on the PDAs then as our ones in the MC don't log out when they get put on to charge. They just "auto-lock" after about 20minsmattycash wrote:No need to logo out the PDA it logs you out when put on charge.

As we have no banking of hours yet is does not matter what time you finish, if there is work to do the manager can send you out or ask you to do other work like prepping d2d. Of course all data will be looked at to take hours out of the office so taking our breaks/starting on time is a must, d2d prep should be done before leaving the office rather then when returning and that will help save jobs.

Just suppose you've 4hrs 30 approx delivery time , if you manage to leave the office slightly early it means you have a bit of leeway if the delivery doesn't go too plan .I'm talking traffic , traffic lights , unusual amount of people not in etc . Without the extra time from leaving early you'd probably go over your hrs , if you make a bit of time then it's more likely you will work a little late to get finished but if every day is maxed out the idea of staying late is unlikely .

So going by all this info, how can they account for a delivery who is half businesses and half houses? Do they allow you time for individual businesses? ie. waiting on receptionist getting off phone to sign for items, or finishing with visitors, etc? all these are going to take extra time and not necessarily happens each day
