DVLA: Licence away for renewal, doctor unsure of Section 88.

Hi all, hoping someone can help. My licence renewal has been away with DVLA DMG since October 2018. They wrote to me last week saying i need a medical. This is grand but my licence expires 28/12/18. The only doctor i managed to see last week doesn't know me and knows nothing about section 88 of the road traffic act 1988 that allows me to drive until the licence is renewed. I have two days to get a second opinion and hope that this doctor knows about this section 88 allowance. Failing that i am without a licence come 29th December. Where do i stand with my job should i be left high and dry for what could be 6 weeks? Thanks in advance.

I would check with the police or DVLA to check if you can continue to drive. I believe that as long as you have applied for a renewed licence you can continue to drive. although your case if more complicated by the section 88 medical requirement I think that provision still applies.

If that is the case then you should be ok. If it isn't then honest with the manager, advise them of the Section 88 requirement (although in most cases you should have done so anyway just for H&S reasons) and they should be okay with it.
