Procedure for applying for office vacancies.

Hi, we are about to have 3 vacancies advertised due to retirement/leaving for another job etc. Now, these duties are not the best, but not the worst so there may only be a few parties interested in them. What I've noticed more though, is the 'secondary' vacancies that will be created by people that leave their duty to pick one of these ones that are soon to be advertised. It's become more of a game of strategy for some staff as they don't necessarily want one of the vacant duties, but will jump at the chance to move onto one that gets freed up, as it may be closer to their house or they might prefer the partner they get to work with etc. With so many people possibly moving about, the idea constantly gets floated about 'we might as well have a full office re-pick' - something I think is totally unfair on those members of staff who are near the bottom and may be reasonably content to just stay put where they are.

So my question is this - Can you exclude your own duty from any proposed full re-sign if there are no material changes to it?

I, and many others in my office get little choice when it comes to a full re-pick (duty and partner) so it hardly seems fair that others can continually try to force a re-pick until they get the pairing they want - and even then they are never happy.

I think you can ask for your walk to be excluded from a full resign if it has not been materially changed at all. If it comes to that situation ask your union rep about it. Generally though a full office resign only happens either if all the walks have been redesigned or if the office hasn't had one for many years and there is a general call for it. As a rule no one including RM likes doing full resigns as it upsets nearly everyone and causes them aggro they don't want.
I don't think even three vacancies at once should warrant having a full resign though. If Postie's who don't currently have walks sign for those vacancies there wouldn't be any further movement afterwards either.

Ideally that would be the best solution I think, as well as fairest. But inevitably more senior members of staff would kick up a fuss about them not being given a chance to sign for these duties even though they had the chance to take them at the very recent latest re-pick. As I said before, they were the far from the first (ie most desirable) duties to be selected last time.
