Reading trough some threads I found this about Walk Logs:
"Walk Logs
The DOM will ensure that there is a hard copy walk log available for every ‘walk’/route from the office, showing all hazards for the walk, as well as up to date operational information. Walk Logs should be placed on or directly adjacent to each individual preparation sorting frame, although offices may centralise them providing there is ready access for delivery staff. Delivery staff will check and amend their walk logs as required. As a minimum, every three months the Delivery Office Manager will ensure that the walk logs for the Office have been formally updated with any amendments. Delivery Office Managers may make use of any computerised system for recording all delivery points to link in individual walks hazard and control information. However, provision of accessible hard copy walk logs will still be a requirement."

There are NO walk logs for any of the routes in my DO. Is this unusual? If DOs were properly organised, detailed routes could be made available on the PDA - great for rurals and for anyone needing a bit of assistance in a new area.

But basic walk logs would be super useful for newbies like myself trying to get my head round a new route - and also to have the opportunity to add to the log to record new hazards etc.

Walk logs - a non-entity in our DO. They may exist, but I have never filled one in and don't know what one looks like. 'Lowering in the service', number 68.

We have walk logs, however I assume we have to keep them updated... don't have time to do this. Even if there was an up to date walk log, who has time to read through and memorise all hazards before they go out ?

We have them, never once looked at one to be honest. It's another ridiculous thing that works in theory but not in reality. As a reserve how am I meant to remember house number x on x street has a dodgy path or whatever.

When every parcel eventually has a barcode on, if RM were to migrate to using only 2D barcodes then maybe in theory for each delivery point it could flag up if there's anything that needs signing for and/or is too big to go through the letter box

We have physical walk logs on paper in red ring binder files. They are usually shoved in one of the plastic storage cupboard things underneath the frames and don't really get looked at much. All the main information is held on the RM computer system as well and is updated occasionally. Additional hazards can be added at any time. If you have questions about a walk it's probably best to ask either the postie that is officially signed to that walk or any other postie that has been trained on it.
