Pay rise
Just a quick question on the October pay rise for part timers as part of the Shorter Working Week, on behalf of a newbie colleague. Should the pay rise include any part timers with less than 12 months service as at 1 October 2018 or are they excluded from the deal? He started just before last Christmas.

Pay rise
Part timers didn't get a pay rise.
FT hours were reduced by an hour. Typically PT is roughly 2/3 of FT, so if FT came down by an hour, PT should have come down by 40 minutes - but didn't. So PT working, relative to FT hours, has gone up.
They could have reduced PT hours by 40 minutes but the agreement was to keep it the same and pay PT for the extra 40 minutes.
Clear as mud?

Pay rise
So the part timers have been overlooked again with this shorter working week?
CWU done the usual and f@@ked us over again!! Our reps have been telling us we are due back pay in November..
Surely p/t should be getting something?

Yes if you call a 2.6% pay rise being overlooked.mightyowler wrote:So the part timers have been overlooked again with this shorter working week?
...
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

You can't jump to being outraged, when you've completely misunderstood the situation.mightyowler wrote:So the part timers have been overlooked again with this shorter working week?

Part-timers got a pay-rise at the same time the Full-timers adopted the shorter working week.
The payrise was equivalent to the reduction in hours for FT staff:
1/39 x 100 = 2.56%
This does however throw up some interesting situations, especially considering how misused Part-time contracts have been. For example, reserves on part-time contracts that mostly work Full-time will now get paid more per hour for working Full-time than Full-timers do. It almost compensates for the holiday pay inequality (but not quite).
