New starters being underpaid

I'm a new union rep and I'm just wanting abit of advice.

One of our new starters at my place has had issues with the manager not paying them for going over their finish time. He said that he won't pay them as they need to get up to speed and that are in training. I've only fount out this week while our DOM is off on maternity. This is now in the process of being resolved.

Today I've had somebody else come up to me and it has happened to him a year ago with the same DOM. He said he has it all still written down on what he is owed. Would he be able to claim this back seeing as the other person has just had their pay backdated? Or is it too late?

This is criminal standard RM delivery office protocol! It would appear. Are they following instructions ???
Shame on the Union, if they are new members. Shame on the Rep. Shame on colleagues who witness it and say nothing.
Shame on horrible, wicked, corrupt, cruel, gloating and exploiting devious managers who treat new starts so badly.
A bit like child groomers in reality, taking advantage of simple ignorance. How would they know differently?
No one seems to be interested in this blatant exploitation of new starts that occurs in delivery offices.
No advice given on claiming OT - should be a coaches duty IMO - most start early to avoid the curse of poor performance accusations. s**t on for days off, OT, holidays the list is endless.
Little wonder the rate numbers of new starts is so bad. Shame on the regular old timers in most cases, I'm all right Jacks.
Disgraceful treatment of new recruits, cannot believe its the same outwith delivery. Or in another industry.

Its too late for a Tribunal claim, but he could lodge a grievance, although it may be more easily resolved if he or you approach the manager and asks about it.

Also as far as I am aware new starters OT falls within a training budget, not the office specific budget. However, that's just something in the back of my mind, and I may be going senile.

I'm not one for reading official docs, but I was about to write same, I believe new starter OT goes down as training... As does the initial period after an office re-sign for all OPGs.

it does even are tight Dom said he will pay for first 2weeks then they should be up to speed!

Tell her to stay on maternity leave. Sounds like it would be a better place. RM is now a joke of a company and they don't give a shot about new starters leaving because they just think, "I will just get the rest of the fatties to do more lapsing" therefore saving money, making sure your dom and linos get their 10% bonus and above them 18% while the downtrodden posties get shafted with a supplement of £25 for which your ment to be grateful even though it was the early shift allowance and door to door payments that were worth more that went. How could you have voted YES for this crap. And yous did.
