A ROYAL Mail delivery driver has been banned from the road for 13 months after admitting a dangerous driving charge at Jedburgh Sheriff Court.
Douglas Jack's Mercedes Sprinter van overtook a tractor and trailer on a blind summit on the A6089 road at the village of Nenthorn near Kelso and collided with an Audi car coming in the opposite direction on the afternoon of Monday, October 23.
The occupants of the Audi car received minor injuries and both vehicles were damaged.
The court was told that the 65-year-old of Parkhead Avenue, Edinburgh, had made two previous attempts to overtake the tractor.
Defence lawyer Maureen Sinclair accepted her client was "impatient" and admitted the outcome could have been a lot worse.
She added he would not lose his job with Royal Mail Parcelforce but his income would be affected.
Sheriff Peter Paterson said the case demonstrated that country roads are more dangerous than motorways with impatients drivers often the cause of accidents.
Jack was fined £400 and will have to resit his driving test when the 13-month ban expires.
