From the agreement earlier this year, there was a passage about part-timers contracted hours being aligned with the actual hours they work.
For example, say you're on a 20 hour contract but are working an extra 10 hours a week/2 hours a day in the same work area your duty.
You've been doing this over a year.
This would be a good case for having your contractual hours increased to 30 as obviously that's the actual hours you're needed for.
I'm not sure how this was worded in the agreement, but surely this would cause issues? Would it not clash with the seniority policy? Could someone be offered more hours without it being advertised and open to more senior members applying?
Or would the fact that it's still a part-time duty if it's 30 hours cancel that out?
What about someone on 30 hours being bumped up to 39?
How would these two policies work side by side?
Would appreciate any insight :p

Hours actually worked vs Hours contracted for - New Agreement
I hope this clarifies part of your post;
Pre- Ballot agreement Negotiators settlement 2018
8. Resourcing in line with current agreements (EDITED points)
Both parties will re-affirm they will deploy legally binding commitments to part- time workers and the
use of agency workers.
In respect of part-time worker the following will apply with immediate effect.
It is apparent that while some colleagues have secured additional conditioned hours and also converted
to full- time there is more that can be done to reflect a part-time workers commitment to additional
hours (should they wish it.) This means, in line with our agreements, and where justified, we should
focus on moving to full time or increasing contractual hours, below full-time, either on a temporary or
permanent variation of contract.
To this end it is agreed there is not and will not be a central HR policy to only recruit on a part-time basis.
Recruitment determined by workload and the outcome of the weekly resource meetings – initiated 13 weeks out.
Notwithstanding our immediate activity we will develop a means to confirm that effective weekly
resourcing meetings are taking place. This will include 6 monthly reviews to of part-time employees
and regular use of agency workers to ensure use of this resource is being used in line with our
agreement.
Also the frontline managers briefing pack states;
From October 2018, new full-time colleagues will be recruited on a 35-hour week
5.
PART-TIME COLLEAGUES
We will honour our agreements regarding part-time colleagues:
•• Part-time colleagues’ contracted hours will be jointly reviewed every March and September. Where appropriate, increased contracted hours will be offered to reflect the hours actually worked and planned.
•• Temporary increases in contracted hours to be offered to part-time colleagues to
manage seasonal variations or peaks in demand.

Indeed and like wise full time staff finishing early, like those night drivers at Greenford Mail Centre. In fact starting late as well.

The agreement is a crock of shite.
The wording should be - the actual hours used by the office will be reviewed and increased where necessary - it is wrong to suggest it will be done on an individual basis.
Some people can't do overtime but would accept an increase in their contracted hours if offered.
If 36 hours were to be put into an office would that be 4 people getting 9 extra hours or 9 people getting 4 extra hours each?
Who will decide?
And what if RM just say the extra hours are being used because the office is inefficient?
How are we measuring efficiency?
There are no clear answers in the agreement. It isn't fit for purpose.
And if it transpires that the manager's favourites get given a lot of overtime and as a consequence get an increase in their contrcated hours regardless of their seniority I would seriously question whether it is worthwhile paying union subs any longer.

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

with this are you only allowed twice a year to ask for increase in hours? or should it be offered to you?
also been doing 45 hours on partime contract just with going over until may , and now even with absorbtion still getting 7-8 hours a week on top of a part time contract.
