Trial approx delivery time ??

given a printed sheet yesterday outlining giving customers of tracked item a 4 hour estimated delivery window....

so we were wondering were we will stand if your out for 4.5 - 5hrs and left the office at say 9 so the customer is expecting said packet some were between 9 -1
and deliver the parcel at 2 are we to be "coached" do we have to cut of like special delivery and get them in before the time.

has any other areas seen the sheet.....were in the north west

Surely the key word there is estimated not guaranteed

If not you give the first half of your delivery an estimate between 9 and 1 and the second half 10 and 2 or even 11 and 3 most regulars could tell you within 30 mins what time they will be at a certain address

It will be taken from the A plus walk logs and will need local input to establish which walks are completed first if shared van etc.

Looks to me like another example of RM attempting to catch up with our parcel only delivering competition, DPD etc, as we've got varying amounts of mail and d2d's to contend with it's a bit more difficult to predict delivery times on a daily basis, I think offering a 4 hr window just makes us look a bit rubbish in comparison !

At the rate it's increasing at, at some point probably within the next 2-3 years, Tracked will overtake non-Tracked mail

Aside from concerns about actually being able to deliver within a set time period this would make the special delivery service redundant. A way RM could do it would be to drop the 1pm special delivery service and move to time windows for tracked items and charge a bit more for the service. Given the quantity of tracked items coming through RM would make more money that way. It would make the job really s*** though and longer as you would be leaving route all the time to meet specific window times.

No it wouldn’t. Special Delivery will still be the premium service. It will still be the only “guaranteed” next day service with added insurance.

Problems aside we all know how long our walks take on most days so we can give a time within an hour no problem lets not make it sound hard. The more work we get the better being a successful company is win win so new products to compete in a tough market is a good thing.

I personally think it would be a pain in the **** to have a load of items to deliver within a certain one hour time window. I already have to leave my route most days to get special delivery items done before time. Then I get the occasional 9am special that needs its own special trip. The 2D square codes are coming in increasing amounts some of which are 'damaged' so the number has to be typed in or the ones where the square is completely missing. Add to that sometimes having to try multiple neighbours to get Parcels done. Then most delivery spans are too long compared to the hours paid. RM expects the Parcels to increase 20% year on year. There simply isn't enough time in the day.

We were informed about this one today. Apparently it is a feasibility study on offering a four hour window for delivery of tracked items only. Customers/recipients will know about it and might ask us about the time they receive their parcel/s but we are to say it's just a testing phase at the moment. I think we were told it is part of the data capture system so RM will be looking at our start and finish times etc to work out if it possible to offer this service.

A 4 hour window doesn't seem very ambitious, most delivery spans are only 4 and a half anyway in our office. Not exactly rocket science to say your parcel will probably be delivered between 1000 and 1400, that's going to happen nearly every day. I'd have thought an hour would be more realistic. If the postcode of where tracked items are delivered is monitored through scans of 2D barcodes over a long enough period it will become evident at what time attempted delivery usually takes place in a postcode group (average of 15 addresses). We all know that if you are on a job long enough (and it doesn't have to be that long) we know what time we will be at a point to within 10 or 15 minutes dependent on how much mail/how many parcels we have. Thorough analysis of the data will come to the same conclusion. So it shouldn't be hard to compute at what time attempted delivery will take place in a postcode group. Frig factors will come in (such as having to switch loops for specials) but even then, if that data is included over time it could be taken into account. The more data gathered the more accurate it could become, it could even be refined by computing where you are and what order you are doing stuff................................O hang on a minute I'm getting carried away.
