To help settle a debate:
Who is higher on the seniority list
a) 8.5 years contined service
b) 6 years, 1 year career break 3 years service

You don't need to worry about seniority in the Royal Mail its illegal, it will soon be a thing of the past, performance, attendance, managers appraisals is the way forward.

Where are the managers going to find the time? They are always out on delivery,in most places I've worked. Before that they are firefighting in a morning,trying to cover duties,because ,either they are useless at planning,or someone's gone sick.

Seniority is a joke.
Creates a culture of laziness.
I know people who have been on the same round for 20 years who haven't a clue about any other rounds.
Somehow you see it as some badge of honour.
Managers hands are completely tied by seniority.
Never happens in any other industry.
Sooner it goes the better !

It's definitely not illegal but most forward thinking organisation do not rely on seniority alone for workplace decisions. A seniority system in a workplace is meant to provide important employee benefits by creating, and fulfilling, employee expectations of fair, uniform treatment.

However this is Royal Mail we are talking about here so that all goes out of the window.

Seniority

I think being one of the managers blue eyed boys/girls is better than being top of the seniority list and yes I have witnessed this so it is a fact
