on friday our office worked our contracted hours, this is what happened....

So my office of around 25 walks, 45 or so staff,had got very fed up with the bullying and abuse going on, unpaid overtime, being 'forced' into working over our hours, getting told to start earlier/later than usual. So we, with the Help of our rep who is great, decided we would all work just to our contracted hours on the friday, as a stand against the abuse, and to prove to the bosses that part time contracts are not enough and generally that the who infrastructure is a mess.

the end result was as you would imagine, around 60% of the office had to cut off, the managers (and their manager friends they pulled in from nearby offices were out delivering until dark, some mail was left over for today aswell, it was actually very satisfying and a big FU to the shambles that is Royal mail at the moment.

we are not prepared to do it everyday, as alot of the part timers need the overtime to get by, but we pulled together and made a stand, and have threatened to do it again if the bosses continue to mess us about, so we shall we what the future brings

Yes well done to you all!! I bet lots like me would love to do it but it's such a shock to be doing the job as it should be done etc,and yes I know we should,we are sometimes to conscientious for our own good? I wonder what the management thought about it? Thinking you were all being awkward and bloody minded no doubt??

Totally awesome. Well done! It would be so great if CWU did a national cut off week. I think it would bring home to senior management just how much Royal Mail runs of the goodwill of its posties whom they see as fodder for their financial targets.

Yes this is what we are hoping, its time for CWU to pull their finger out and actually be proactive.

I think they may have done this before, don't think the response was very good

yea it was to some extent, but if i remember rightly it was a pretty lame attempt with no real 'marketing' I think it could be done if there was a real push and some real noise about it

Unfortunately, it would need to be at this time of year to have any real impact, so too late for this year. Good idea though.

some of our P/T staff on 25 hour contracts are doing 70 hours a week doing cut offs and parcel deliveries

can you keep us updated if you carry on the stance
this could do with being made more public but the union bosses wouldn't do it, all the customers ever read is "greedy postman" with no response.
