30 hour contract, current duty 9am start til 3pm but takes til 5 or so to complete. Will be later now with Christmas rush. Only want to work contracted hours as have commitments at home on the farm. Do I have to inform my DOM every single morning that I won't be doing overtime today? & have that same conversation every morning about mail not being delivered? I've asked to be put on a duty which is more suited to my hours, could easily be done but they won't accommodate.

Perhaps he needs reminding overtime is voluntary and not compulsory. Consider diarising especially if you think a grievance may be warranted.

That will be everyday then lol I will take your advice and start keeping a record of everything. If cutting off & bringing mail back do you have to factor in the time it takes to re prep it for the next day? So say 3pm finish, back at DO for 2.30 & prep back in for next day?

if thats what the managers wants you to do then yes.stephen.cal87 wrote:That will be everyday then lol I will take your advice and start keeping a record of everything. However, more than likely they'll want you to deliver as late as you can and prep the undelivered stuff in the morning.
Clarification - You do what the manager says, if he says take it all with you then do that, if he says take what will take you to your time, do that.
Don't make the decision yourself as if you do the rules state whatever you take with you should be delivered. Make them make the decision.
Possible decisions they can make. (this is not an exhaustive list)
1. Estimate the mail and take and deliver that which will take you to your time.
2. Take it all with you can call them, or they call you, at a certain time for instructions.
3. Take all the mail and call them with a rendezvous point where another postie will take over.
4. Take all the mail, deliver to time and bring back the remainder, handing it to a manager for disposal.
5. Take all the mail, deliver to time and bring back the remainder, leaving it on your frame with or without prep.
Whatever decision they make, make sure you have both understood them, and that you have a witness who can back up your version of events.

Of course if you are willing to do overtime that probably sorts the problem for them.
However, it is still the manager's decision and if you go over and claim overtime without first getting authorization it may cause you problems getting paid. If you advise you are willing they can accept that and pay you, or they can get someone else to do the overtime, or if someone has spare capacity in their working day, they can utilise them. Its their decision, not yours.

Yet legally an employer has to pay for all hour actually worked. Not to do so is to defraud the tax office os revenue.

That doesn't happen, managers are quite happy for people to finish hours early while others are cutting off. We don't understand the hold these people have over them. There must be something.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Of course if you are willing to do overtime that probably sorts the problem for them.
