Has any other office been told they are not allowed to run the engines while clearing the windscreen?

We have been told not to, in order to save fuel! Nevermind that we need to sit in van for 5mins with engine running because we cant see even after scraping the ice off!

Refuse to drive it till you can see other wise you risk 3-9 points on your licence for careless driving at best and a ban for dangerous driving and 10 years for killing someone just because some tight arsed manager and his/her bonus!

10 years?! I doubt that very much with our justice system!

De-icer doesn't demist the inside of a vehicle, you realise that I know, there is only one way, run the engine and put the heater on. You know that also.

If its cold it will not matter the screen will need clearing again by the time you go out. Got to start it in the morning to do your van checks so no problem.

That's not the only way to clear the inside of a windscreen but it certainly is the SLOWEST and most wasteful of fuel in a cold van.

You can use the rubber edge of the ice-scraper provided in vans to wipe the moisture away or a sponge or cloth. TAKES FIVE SECONDS!

Yep, the 'experienced' posties at our place get away with leaving their vans running for at least 20 mins while they are bundling up - the vans are all outside with engines running and easily accessible to the public.

It would be hilarious if a group of mischievous lads strolled in and took away all their vans. Maybe I should suggest it to a few of the local troublemakers, all anonymous-like obviously!

We have boxes and boxes of de-icer in our office. All supplied by our vehicle workshop.

You have scrapers provided in your vans? We use 739 cards. Your office doesn't realise how well off it is.
