Hi guys, I've searched forum but can't find a definitive answer. Does a career break get taken off seniority time?
E.g Postman A started with RM on 01/01/2006 and postman B started 6 months later on 01/07/2006. Postman A goes travelling, so takes a 1 year career break. A few years later a duty becomes available. Who is the most senior to pick the duty out of the two, A or B?

Postman B is the most senior.
Career Breaks pause seniority.
Way Forward.
13.6 All service within an appropriate grade, whether on permanent or temporary basis, will count for seniority purposes, with the exception of any periods worked on a casual contract, or during a career break or sabbatical. Unpaid leave will count provided there is no break in contact. Service after age 60 will continue to count. However service must be continuous for seniority purposes, with periods prior to any break in contract (due to re-employment, for example) not generally included, unless there are exceptional circumstances applying to particular cases that are agreed at local level.

hold on, another scenario is, postman A has 20 years senority and postman b had 10 years, A takes career break for two years and resumes job, A then is senior, I kept my seniority after a 2 year career break.

Correct - in the above case there was a 6-month difference on starting dates, but Postman A had 12 months on a career break. Therefore Postie B has 6 months seniority on Postman A.
Your seniority freezes when you go on career break, and then restarts on return.
So both scenarios are correct.
