Hi everyone,
I'm currently on 39 hours on nights but due to health reasons can't continue.
I've been offered positions in delivery or collections but these are 20 hours & would have serious effects on me financially.
I understand that there will no doubt be a compromise to be made in regards to my contracted hours however I know someone who would be interested in doing the nights, could me & him swap jobs? Eg: me on his contract of 32 hours & him on mine of 39?
Just wondering if anyone else had to come off their duty for health reasons & what was the outcome?

Job Swap
Unfortunately duties are not simply swapped like that. Imagine if somebody were senior to your 32hr colleague and would very much like your 39hr duty. They would have a legitimate grievance because a duty they would have applied for would be granted to a junior member. Unless you are both already the manager's blue-eyed boys then I can't see that he would attempt to allow such a swap, avoiding the seniority process.
If it is a small office you could simply ask everyone if such a swap would be an issue for anyone there. If there are no objections then it could easily go ahead as you both would like. If there are any objections, then the duties should be advertised and allocated on seniority. You would both need to consider the implications if you didn't end up with the duties you were each hoping for.
I say 'should'. That is obviously not always the case because there are so many blue-eyed boys in this company!

I was on the 32 hour duty on collections 7 months ago & got a driving job in distribution.
The colleague is senior to me but missed out on applying because it wasn't displayed at the hub where we worked, although it & the collections at mail centre are resourced as 1 unit.
I only knew about the vacancy as I performed OT at the mail centre.
He is on the reserve list for when the next batch of people are required to start as there are more duties been created in future.
We had 1 vacancy 3 weeks after starting the duties & he tried to get on then but was told because he hadnt applied originally by the closing date he would be considered next time but not this time??.

I think you should find out if you are classed as disabled,if you are swapping duties would be classed as'reasonable adjustments' the seniority process doesn't come into it.
