If RM eventually increase their fleet to 17tonne vehicles to accommodate the 1 wave if that eventually is given the go ahead then this would reduce the amount of 7.5 T drivers but not eliminate as transfers of mail from mail centres to DO offices do not have the required access for larger vehicles. Furthermore RM claim that staff have a pathway to improve themselves within the business then displaced 7.5 T drivers would be given the opportunity and provide training for the higher class of license.swoosta wrote:Whats going to happen with all the 7.5 tonne drivers if Royal mail brings in the 17 tonnes?

Long term I'd expect that most DOs that can't handle 17 tonne lorries will either merge into another DO that can or move to a new siterehabron wrote:If RM eventually increase their fleet to 17tonne vehicles to accommodate the 1 wave if that eventually is given the go ahead then this would reduce the amount of 7.5 T drivers but not eliminate as transfers of mail from mail centres to DO offices do not have the required access for larger vehicles.
