Job on RM website

Noticed a job being advertised on RM website with the the title 'Senior Data Scientist' ...... what the hell. No wonder we are being flogged to death on the streets when they are paying people seventy grand a year plus five grand towards a car along with a 18% bonus and healthcare plan. Think how many letters and packets need to be delivered just to pay that person over a year and they are just one of a team. This is going on all over the company - ridiculous. At the end of the day we are a delivery company, what the hell does a scientist have to do with putting bits of paper through holes in a door. No wonder the company is in the state it is and us guys on the street are being hammered to do more and more - we are top heavy with numptys being paid a fortune under ridiculous job titles. The legacy of the fake yank is one where we have seen an explosion of these sort of jobs along with a total demoralisation of the ground troops.

With respect, there are a lot of technical behind the scene jobs at Royal Mail, that take a broader view and understanding to appreciate than "we just put bits of paper through doors". Think of all the automation potential that is present in the business, data scientists can analyze and formulate efficiency savings across the network pipeline, which even if it constitutes a small saving adds up day to day.

What we need is less by the minute ideas, like "nominate a neighbour" which was obviously dreamt up by somebody with no realistic understanding of deliveries and how remembering and accessing a list of ever growing nominated neighbours would be totally impractical and non-workable.
