I am a 25hr reserve so i'm used to getting shafted some weeks. Just looked at the duty sheets for next week and Im on 5 different duties with a tuesday off. Because we have suddenly become short staffed due to two cover men recently leaving in the last 2 weeks I always had a feeling I would be stuck on a variety of duties in one week. Doing 5 duties in 5 days is not a mega issue although not really ideal, im more bothered about them also giving me the quietest day as my day off. No one wants to come back to work after a weekend to find you work only one day then have another day off.
So can I approach my manager and say i'll happily work them shifts but I will only do my contracted hours which would probably force them into either giving me a second day off due to the fact i'd have to start at 9.30am or give me a better day off? With men short I want to start nipping this in the bud because I have a feeling this will become a regular thing with the absence of covermen and to 'conveniently' give me the quietest day off in the week whilst having me work so many different duties in one week to suit them ? They have to remember i'm part time, they chose my contracted hours not me.
