Not sure how those in charge will tackle this issue, I pay into the pension along with 1000's more,
but I'd like to see the figures on those who aren't paying in seeing as the scheme was closed to new starters several years ago and the ratio of cwu to non cwu members now employed by RM?
There must be at least a 25% of staff in my d/o alone, if not more, who won't be paying into the scheme and pass if they are union members too.
So how do you expect them to take any form of industrial action for an issue that can never affect them?

This issue is far greater a problem than any pay rise deal and needs to tackled asap because by the time we retire our knees will be shot, back broken and wheelchair bound
without a pension pot to piss in.
Have we ever had a strict work to rule with a complete overtime ban, because this is the only option to get those unaffected with these changes on side.

Let's dispel the myths , in Royal Mail you will not be able sustain a work to rule or an overtime ban. We have tried it before all that happens is Royal Mail instruct you and if you don't do it they take you off pay or suspend you. The office than does one or two things they either come out unofficially on strike to get you back to work or they betray you and start working your normally leaving the people taken off pay high and dry.

I have seen it happen so many times , work to rule ends up mostly in unofficial action.

Overtime bans also don't work as they are hard too apply and end up with people being taken off their normal duties to cover the key duties.

If either made any impact we would have been doing them instead of striking they don't !

The only way you get a result is if your willing to lose pay too fight for your terms and conditions.

Every strike we have ever been in and I have been in them for 31 years we have come out of it better than what we were facing before ! Yes we have had too see change and some of that change is not good or welcomed but we have defeated a lot of what Royal Mail want and significantly improved pensionable pay as well as improved attendances !

However no union has a veto to change even the RMT had too accept the night tube and change , the key is do you get something in rerun for change.

The one difference in this industry compared to more other unionised workforces is that we do not like extra work and we are not happy when work is heavy.

We face huge challenges over the next few months and we need to stand together !

I am afraid to say this is another stitch up by royalmail and with the CWU knowing full well our pensions were not being funded as they never had any intention to fund any pension scheme all along after the last rape of our pension! As they knew they could do the very same thing once again does not take rocket science if we did not defend it in the first instance what would they do again!

i've been with RM well over 10 years and never ever seen a work to rule & overtime ban, been in several strikes which only resulted in us taking 2 or 3 days mail the next shift with us losing a couple of days pay.
hence why a complete overtime ban will always hurt them with no loss of income to staff

We did in our office, our work to rule paralysed our office and since it we are all in it together, they couldn't discipline everybody and we also stopped using our cars, forcing them to get official transport out including bringing in taxis then hiring minibuses, we loved it and it stopped the management from pushing in unarmed changes.

It showed what is possible with a strong workforce.

That's a ridiculous comment about not liking extra work dingo, what we don't like is royal mail's inability to resource extra work and the union's impotence when it comes to enforcing national agreements at senior level.

What we need is a comprehensive plan to deal with an aging workforce and an increasingly physical job beyond throwing everyone on the IHR scrapheap.

Well I can tell you that in our office there is absolutely no appetite for fighting the abolition of the old boys pension.

Those of us on the DC pension will never strike or get involved in any industrial action to protect the conditions of others to the detriment of our own.

The consensus is scrap the old boys pension and improve the DC pension.

I think its called a level playing field. All standing together and all that.

And if the day comes I hope all the new boys won't be asking the old boys to strike for them if royal mail decide to make thousands redundant and decide it's last in first out, maybe even dangling a tasty carrot of Monday to Friday for the ones left behind! Sure they'd all be fine with the old boys thinking I'm alright jack and agreeing to it.

I doubt someone like you would strike for any reason so no loss really.
We'll do the fighting to protect the DB pension and improve the DC pension....again and you guys can do whatever you like.

Someone like me ?

My point is that to keep the older pensions running would be to the detriment of those on the DC pension. If we are to stand together surely we should aim to get a decent pension for ALL employees, therefore everyone should be on the same. The longer serving employees obviously didn't put up much of a fight, which is why there is so much difference between the schemes....probably people like you !

Remind me of the strikes and industrial action to prevent the change to DC pension and how successful that was.

The union has already won improvements in the DC scheme and the strategy now is not just to fight the closure of the DB scheme but also fight for further improvements to the DC scheme, if you had bothered to read the odd LTB or visit the union website you would know that.

That's great news. Perhaps the union should aim for improvements to the DC scheme that would be attractive to all employees, including those on the older schemes. Perhaps some of the costs currently being put towards funding the DB scheme would help in that direction.
Then I'd happily join you on the gate.

So let me get this straight, since I started my pension has deteriorated considerably and yours has improved since you started.
In order to join me on the gate you want to see my pension deteriorate further and yours improve further?
To be honest, I'd rather you didn't bother.

When I started this job the pay was shite, I could have earned more working in a supermarket, the thing that drew me to the job was the pension, we've fought hard to get the pay up to a decent level and personally I've lost a lot of money in strike days over the years, You are enjoying the benefit of that lost pay every time you go to the bank, thanks for the reciprocal support.
