Applying for vacancies help please

Post by sicknote25 »

We have a couple of rounds being advertised in our office. I already have a 31hr contract and have been told that duties should be offered on size of contract before seniority (ie. if a advertised duty is 31hrs then it should be offered to someone on this contract first before making smaller contracts up). Can anyone tell me if this is the case please. Thanks in advance.

Sorry for late reply, only just saw this post...

If the job is 31hrs, then a more senior colleague, with, for example a 39hr or 35hr contract can trump you to the job ONLY if s/he is willing to drop down to 31hrs. If a more senior colleague is on a lower than 31hr contract, s/he can take the job (and increase in hours) ONLY if those hours are identified as available in the delivery office.

In my experience, very few posties opt to reduce hours and very few senior colleagues are on shorter hours - so you should be in with a good shout.
