There are two types of Ill Health Retirement:

1. IHR with lump sum - You will have been deemed incapable of doing your current job, there will be no other jobs available to give you at RM. You’ll get 34 weeks pay plus either 9 or 12 weeks PILON depending on length of service. If you’re 55 or over there’s nothing stopping you from taking your pension but the normal early payment reductions would apply. There are no barriers to you getting another job.

2. IHR with immediate payment of pension – You will have been deemed to not be able to work at all. You’ll get a pension as detailed in the library section of the pension website. There’s nothing stopping you from getting another job elsewhere assuming your condition allows it.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who fit your description in one of these two ways.
