He won't except what it says in the log book about checks he says they are out of date

Last time we had a fleet audit the guy checking the vans checked the log books to make sure they were being filled in correctly and that the daily , duty and weekly checks were recorded , some of the duty holders were pulled to one side for not recording their weekly checks.

Well he showed me some paper work which said that only 20% of the vehicles a week had to be checked but as I say this is for audit purposes. I couldn't get him to see that 20% of vehicles is not a weekly check it becomes a 5 week check. His best remark was we haven't got the staff to do a weekly check on every van

Only 2 differences between the daily and weekly check (for a small van at least) -> tyre depth and pressure are both measured on weekly as opposed to a visual only check.

It has to be said that both measurements are subject to massive variance dependant upon gauges used.

Everything else is the same.

The manager is wrong.

Weekly checks are a requirement, and failure to perform them can result in employees being conduct coded.

The 20% he is talking about are the checks HE is supposed to do. He is supposed to check 20% of vans himself to ensure staff have done their checks.
And it should also be in rotation, so that he checks all vans get checked every 5 weeks, and then starts again.

Ask for the instruction in writing.

Ask who the local fleet auditor is and report it to them.

Tell Moya.

It is H&S.
YOU could get fined/points your licence or you could lose your licence if stopped and the vehicle is found defective/unroadworthy.
Worse, you could lose your life.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
