How does this work please? Does RM pay you and then you pay the person working your shift cash? Or do you take it as unpaid leave and RM pays whoever is covering?

Royal Mail pay YOU as if you have worked your shift and you pay the guy who's covering you in cash because they have worked your shift.
And if you want me to work YOUR shift, the amount is priceless

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Thank you for that. I'm on a 5 hour contract but always go over by an hour plus. Would they be able to book overtime in my name and then I just pay the whole amount in cash?postslippete wrote:Royal Mail pay YOU as if you have worked your shift and you pay the guy who's covering you in cash because they have worked your shift.

You will need to be careful with the arrangement you are making with your substitute as you have mentioned that your walk goes over your contracted hours and this will be claimed by your substitute not you. So you can agree with substitute an hourly rate up to 5 hours paid in cash and over 5 hours claimed by substitute. As stated by " mudmonster" put you application in the duty exchange book to keep yourself in the clear should anything unforeseen occur.peshwaarinaan wrote:Thank you for that. I know this goes on in a lot of offices, but my understanding is that it's not supposed to happen but that management are usually happy to turn a blind eye to it.
Therefore make sure that you 100% trust the person who is doing your shift. For example if this person happens to lose an item or fails to scan barcodes then management will obviously first assume that you are at fault for it, and arguing your way out may not be easy. Just be very careful is all i'd say.

If you have enough mates then ask them if they can take a loop or even half. No money lost & goodwill reciprocated when needed, plus a few cups of coffee
