Worried about being sacked

Looking for a little advice please.

Today I refused to take out the lapsing as I knew I was going to go over and didn't want the overtime. We had some poll cards as well which meant that I had more than the normal amount on a tuesday.. Anyway told the DOM that I couldn't lapse in front of many witnesses and he came over to my frame and counted the empty slots on the frame and insisted that it could be done. I repeatedly told him that i felt it was not achievable in the time I had. He kept saying that he expected me to do it and that if it wasn't done I would be challenged for wilful delay... I left the lapsing in the frame anyway as I would not go over my time. Now I think he will call me into the office in the morning and try to sack me over this. Made union rep aware but he works in another office and probably won't be able to back me up tomorrow. Needless to say I feel like I'm being bullied. Advice greatly appreciated.

As long as the work you took out with you took you up to your time you have nothing to worry about. Overtime is not compulsory.

First and foremost,he cannot summarily sack you,without going through the correct procedure,secondly,what have you done wrong? I can't see it ,you told him,what more does he want?

2 options regarding the rep

1. Refuse to have the fact finding interview with the DOM without a union rep present.
2. If you have followed the correct procedure which it sounds you have and are feeling stressed through bullying you could always phone in sick. You can self certificate for upto a week but will need a Drs note after that.

Other than that, stay strong and don't let them grind you down.

If your face doesnt fit and you "fart out of tune" then they may try and sack you for that.
However it sounds like you have defo followed correct procedure so I wouldnt get too stressed. If your not in the union Id join now.

Just wrong on so many levels that you even faced that bullshit, when you had done nothing wrong. Where do they get these managers from? Half of them dont even know there own rules and procedures, thats what makes a clued up union rep priceless in a D.O, where most of this rubbish seems to occur.

So today I got apporached by the manager again, who said I was going to be reported to the DSM for an under performance issue for what happened. He came up with a load of figures about mail traffic on the day, the amount of empty slots on my frame (which I believe he made up) and the amount of large parcels and came to a conclusion that I would have had time to lapse. Even though I offered to do the lapsing at the end of my duty if I had time with witnesses present. Where do I stand and how do I put in a grievance against this bully (who isn't even an official manager by the way, just a postie training to become a manager).

I have been advised to put in a grievance but not sure how to? Not getting much help as most in our office are scared to speak up, and some even agreed with him! I don't think they know their own rights. Union rep works in another nearby office.

they come out with this bullshit everytime someone stands up to them. ''you are not performing as you should indoors so you are not getting out on time''. load of crap. he's in the wrong firstly for reporting it to the DSM. if they have a problem with your indoor performance then they should be putting in measures to have you tested to see if you are up to speed, and if not, have you coached to the standard. not going straight to the DSM. it should be dealt with in house. I have a feeling he may be trying to scare you as it is not procedure to do this. get onto your branch and get a higher union rep involved. area or div. and put grievance in. BASTARDS

Thanks for this... How would they test you on the outdoor aspect of it?

They can't really. If they do follow you outside, if they go by the book they are more than likely going to have to tell you to slow down. Which would make it a pointless exercise. They'll just find other ways to wear you down.
