Bulk postings

I've often wondered if managers know when a bulk post is arriving. The main culprit being everyone's favourite, Matalan.

Our office is at least 3 f/t's short, and I feel our managers try to squeeze everything out of the remaining f/t's to get things sorted, without asking p/t's in the day before ( saving money ), but when it's not looking great, send out the mass text to p/t's in the morning to come in early and get paid.
My manager even tries to be sneaky sometimes by saying he will advance the start times, thus advancing our finish time, at the cost of cutting into our delivery time of course. The runners always buy into this con ( no surprise ).

Am I being paranoid? A big company like Royal Mail, and another like Matalan, unable to tie in logistics? It just doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't Matalan ( or any other company that does bulk mailing ) be able to say "we are posting items nationwide during these days" , or something along those lines?

That rather depends on if it is a RM product or a DSA product - for RM then yeah we'd get days notice or weeks for big ones, workload planning even on occasion. DSA they tell the numbers the same as they do for every posting, doesn't mean you know if they are going to be nice C5 letters or awful loose leaved ¼" catalogues.

I'm sure your DOM just looks at his daily report and sees for the office "50 trays of mech, 25 flats, 3 manual, yeah that'll be fine" or "125 mech, 75 flats, 17 manual, oh ***t, lets see who will come in" as contacting in the morning means he's not had any notice before the MC Nights traffic report.

For the communication industry we are seriously bad at internal communications.

You can say the same with D2D's.
One pairing might only have one D2D and another pairing has 6 but the DOM's still think that both will be finished at the same time
Gone are the days of finishing early on a Tuesday and bundling them up for later in the week
No more fat to take of the bone.

We had one Saturday, brown envelope from Bristol, basically a 'leave the EU' mailing. We asked DIM if we could just take them where we're going, but because it was access mail was classed as 1st. Class so not many lapsed, runners couldn't come back early as 6 rounds spare to do....

We had the same. DOM said " take where you are going", I replied to the DOM" last week you said anyone leaving mail behind would get a disciplinary"
So I took the lot out and cut off 2 loops

I'm sure they make it up to suit themselves

We very rarely get notice about bulk postings, aside from Polling cards and the like, and even then they gave us wrong info about polling cards recently!

No idea if we get warning or not, we walk in, how's it looking? S***, ok no lapsing today then.
