delivered to neighbour, parcel now missing.....

We are under so much pressure not to bring parcels back, I was put on a round I dont know that well.

I had a tracked and the person was out, I was going to try the neighbour but they where already out the front doing some work at their house and their front door was open so they saw me waiting and offered to take it. left a note saying parcel with your neighbour at X...

All good until the next day, my boss comes and tells me that a man has been in asking where his tracked is that has been marked as delivered but he doesnt have it.

I explain what I did and the man says he never recieved a note and the neighbours are out, boss gets him to wait for his neighbours to get home, they do and they (according to the man) never had the parcel.

So I had stressful couple of days with meeting trying to track it down. long story short, the mans wife had collected it from their neighbours and the man didnt know.....

My point is, what is there to protect us from this?

Nothing.
PDA's need a delivered to neighbour option where you can put the house number in so it shows on the tracking.

Nothing that i know of at the moment, i guess when we get the new pda we will be expected to take a picture of the door but that could still be contested by the customer

It's obvious.....don't leave parcels with neighbours.Mangers get a bonus for a certain percentage of tracked delivered(See where the pressure comes from).Your jobs at risk if it goes missing.They want you to take the risk for their gain £££££££.

the pda should have the gps where it was scanned, i wouldn't worry about it if it is a tracked,
we are told to leave them anywhere & with anyone, a few haven't made it to the intended and nothing ever said, they just ask where it was left and that's the end of it.

How accurate are the pda's at gos tracking? Surely if im stood on a drive way 10 metres from the neighbours, it wouldnt be able to tell which one im on?

It's not that accurate, but I think he meant that you could use the fact that it was scanned at area of the house to show that there's nothing unusual and it's like any other tracked item that gets delivered. This of course doesn't prove that it was handed to a neighbour but it doesn't show anything that can be held against you.

Mr J - a point to highlight from your reply - if PDA fails and you have to use paper P4550 form then there's not even GPS record to give you
that little bit of extra evidence if something goes missing. Also the common practice in our DO is that if your PDA fails and you have to use paper, when you get back to the office everyone just manually adds the Delivery Scanned or Tracked No Sig codes onto a serviceable PDA to confirm (or not) delivery - again inaccurate GPS record on the PDA (if indeed they do record it)

Good point - taking a photo of a door will prove nothing - can't imagine taking a photo of the addressee or neighbour with the parcel in their hands will be appreciated either LOL!

we once raised issues at trying the neighbours as there are quite a few "unsavory characters" on a stretch on our delivery.
manager told us we MUST try them regardless, if they nick it then its someone else's problem

Shouldn't you scan them as safe place if you DTN?

So neighbour didn't think to tell him that his wife picked it up instead of saying they didn't have it? Should pay this neighbour a little visit and ask exactly what he said to the guy, then you know which one is the arsehat.

You followed the correct procedure so there's nothing more to it. If something goes missing then it's nothing to do with you and they have to follow the standard missing packet process.
