Should Term Time working take up annual leave slots?

Post by iHateD2Ds »

Out of 8 available weekly annual leave slots during the July /August school holidays ,3 are taken up for six weeks solid by persons on term time working. This as a massive impact on other persons trying to gain summer leave

So my question is Is it normal practice for this to happen and take up a valuable annual slot?
After all they are not contracted to work set period, so should not be classed as annual leave?

If it is normal practice then the positive impact of flexible working hours has certainly a negative impact on the rest of us.

it makes sense to do it, otherwise the company would have to employ in your case three extra staff for 6 weeks where it is not needed, as long as there is enough reserves to allow everyone to take their during the entire year then the company is ensuring that everyone is getting their legally entitled annual leave, as said in your other thread, these are hard won rights by unions over the years, why should people not be allowed to use them, it seems to me that most people who complain about people invoking their rights are jealous, they should look for other rights that apply to them rather than trying to stop people getting things they are perfectly entitled to

it is also not classed as annual leave, its just using the reserves to cover their duties, people think its an "Annual Leave Reserve" Its not, its just a Reserve

You yourself have received sick pay from royal mail, you have benefited from it, now if royal mail didnt have to pay us sick pay at all to any staff, it could be said they could instead pay the rest of us a higher weekly wage, so you have benefited from this to the theoretical negative to the rest of us, so should sick pay be stopped also to give the rest of us a higher wage?

as a side note no company is compelled to offer annual leave year round, in fact if a company wanted to they could legally tell their whole staff they have 3 weeks in April and 2 weeks in November

Also how many extra leave slots were opened up by summer staffing for next year in your office?
