In October we start a six-month trial of doorstep collections in North-West England.

We’re offering 200-300 existing sellers free next-day doorstep collections when sending parcels with Royal Mail. Sellers can send parcels Monday to Friday.

Orders can be placed online or by phone, and customers have three collection slots to choose from, 9am-12noon, 12noon-3pm, or 3-6pm. Items can be despatched on a number of services: RM24/48, RM Signed For, Special Delivery & International.

Collections will be confirmed by return email or SMS and booked collections will be processed on Sharepoint for delivery offices and collections hubs. Items will be collected either on existing delivery or collection routes.

If successful, the service will be rolled out across the country.

EBay North West Region Consumer Collection Trial & Terms of Reference

As part of the ongoing work of the Integrated Delivery Programme, a review of the ongoing Commercial Initiatives has taken place and an opportunity to trial doorstep collections to circa 200-300 eBay marketplace sellers in the North-West region has been agreed.

The trial will provide:

A next day collection available Monday to Friday for orders placed before 17:30 by phone and up to midnight for on line the previous working day.
Customers will have 3 window slots to choose from: 0900 - 1200, 1200 -1500, or 1500 – 1800.
Customers will be able to despatch items on the full range of Royal Mail delivery services: RM24/48, RM Signed For, Special Delivery & International.
Customers that pay for their postage online will have two options for booking their collection:
a) An Online booking form on http://www.royalmail.com;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or
b) A telephone booking service with Royal Mail Customer Services.
A return email or SMS will confirm the collection is scheduled.
Booked collections will be processed on SharePoint for Delivery Offices and Collections Hubs to access the booking information to allocate and plan the collection.
The collection will be performed and items entered into the network on existing delivery or collection routes.

The trial will commence in October 2015 and last for a period of 6 months. Assuming the trial is successful the intention would be to expand this service to the rest of the country as the first step in creating future growth before making the service available to all sellers, not just eBay.

The CWU will be fully involved at Divisional level and subsequently at Area and Local level. Nationally we will be updated monthly on progress via the Steering Group of the Integrated Delivery Programme and any outstanding issues will be resolved at that meeting.

The nationally agreed terms of reference will be formally reviewed after 3 months and in 6 months. Both Royal Mail and CWU confirm that no change will be made without proper notification and use of our national agreements.

I imagine that the result of any trials will be that it does not have any impact on the delivery span of duties.

This would be fun, trying to fit collection packets into a full bag of delivery items!

How long before Parcelforce gets amalgamated into Royal Mail? Seems to be heading that way.

We seem to be delivering more and more big packets, we collect from Post Offices the same as Parcel Force, we might as well collect from other businesses while we're out there.
