Annual Leave 2016/2017

Post by IcanthelpthewayIam »

Ok over the years i have noticed similar problems popping up time and again with regards to annual leave, so this year i am going to post some information below to try and help people before the problems arise

Firstly

It is approximately 6 Weeks from now that next years annual leave should be selected, it should not be carrying on into next year and even longer in some instances, Union Reps should already have talked about this with their doms and be sorting out next years leave
The Way Forward Agreement wrote:The leave year will be April to March. The Christmas pressure period, determined by the operational unit, will be a closed period for leave. The selection process should be complete by the end of the preceding October each year.
So if your rep is not already talking to your dom about it, get on to him and get him to start to get it sorted out, everyone should know when they have their annual leave next year by the end of October giving everyone plenty of time to book and plan holidays,

Secondly

Summer Staffing is not used for covering sickness absence or vacancies, it has been specifically agreed for the use to allow extra annual leave slots during the summer months, so reps should be pushing for extra slots to be opened up during the summer, dont take no for an answer, get these slots opened up now and selected before end of October

yes it will mean lapsing during the summer months but what would you rather be doing it for, to help your dom hit his bonus or so one of your mates can get a weeks holiday? the way things are going some offices are lapsing year round anyway so better you get the benefit of doing something that you would be doing anyway to benefit your dom

If were lapsing all year round, surely that should mean extra holiday slots all year round

No as there are two parts of the pay and mod agreement which allow lapsing, one part to allow extra annual leave in summer and second part to allow it all year round to cover absence and vacancies etc DOMs use the second bit all year round but quite often "forget" about the bit allowing extra leave in the summer
