July 15th Mount Pleasant bulletin

Post by anna »

hello here is latest bulletin - feedback welcome positive or negative... altho we prefer the first. The bulletin will bot appear during August and will be back (because it is fortnightly) late September... Best wishes to all readers!

WHO ARE THE MISERY-MAKERS?
"Making misery for millions" is how the Tories described the Tube strike - and how they justify fast-tracking anti-strike laws (presenting them this Wed) which will make striking illegal in public services unless 50% turn out and 40% of eligible workers vote for it... But his government is making misery for over 5 million workers on tax credits and housing benefit (many already working several MacJobs) by lowering the threshold at which cuts in these in-work benefits will start - having "won" the election with only 36.9% of the vote...

PS: is RM still a "public service" in their twisted view???

ARE WE PEOPLE TOO?
So we read on the CWU website that Dave and his mates are going to "get tough" with the Tories! They launched a "People's Post" campaign "to defend postal services and decent employment standards"... By hanging a protest banner over Westminster bridge, meeting in Westminster Hall with "speakers from other unions, celebrities and leading figures from politics" and rallying in front of the dept for Business, Innovation and Skills…
If the idea is to show our strength and start the fight so much needed to win back the ground lost, we can think of thousands of useful things to do… instead of mobilising Dave's union official and MP friends! Or is that what he means by "people"?

PLAYING THE DOCTOR
What about this "early intervention and case management system" for sick absences which RM is introducing? Which in plain English means that managers will be harassing us even more during our sick leave to get us back to work, even when our GPs have advised otherwise. So we think RM should provide every manager with GP training first… that will get them out of our way for at least 8 years! Otherwise, this new system is not on!

ACT YOUR IMAGE
By the way, if managers want us to get to work on time during transport strikes (which we support!), they can provide a minibus service to fetch us and take us home. Don't other profitable shareholding big private corporations do that?? After all... And if they don't want to, then they can let us off 2 hours early.

WE MISS TOM
This can't be: the little convenience store which has always been open on nights now has no-one to run it since our dear workmate retired. We understand that he's irreplaceable, but we do need someone to run it. The shop round the corner closes at midnight and the vending machine is bad and expensive!

BUT A NEW ONE CAN BE FOUND!
Yeah, we also lost the MP lottery which we enjoyed doing - and even had a good chance of winning. So what are we going to do about it? Sounds like a mass meeting is called for so that we can decide how to keep this social activity (including the store) going!! If we elect workmates to run it, management can easily find a way to give them the necessary work-time "off". Don't they keep telling us we have a "surplus"?

PREPARING TO DROP A SILVER?
So the points were distributed two weeks back for the next WC toilet award, (managers still hold the bronze - which in French appropriately translates as "shite") and we hear that they're preparing for silver... Too bad. After all that fuss, more fuss - and for what? No thanks.
READY TO BITE
The Romec manager behaves just like a cat chasing mice... For the time being, the best we can do is run and hide. Until we organise resistance, of course! Yup, like in that TV ad for mobile network O2, we need to find our inner dog(s)!

PUSHED TO THE LIMITS
Indeed, being a cleaner for Romec is bad and stressful enough. We have both Hoovers and bosses on our backs (when we deserve a pat, we get a Pat...)
On earlies especially, we're treated like prisoners. Zero-hours contract workers are still being used. And on top of it all, there's an unofficial manager-pet who acts as warden, spy and monitor (we don't like to say this, but it's just so bad...) Shouldn't her job on management side be made official?

MAKING HER PAY
We thought we already said congrats to the ex-actors who won their case against RM. But we're asked to say it again: always good to see RM being made to pay. As for their little friends acting up, at OPG rates, we can tell them "keep acting, keep dreaming!"...

NO TO AUSTERITY!
What was this austerity empty "water" bottle given to all of us during the hot weather? We will take as many breaks as needed to refill it... But we expect ice and lemon and a sprig of mint to be provided. Plus a little drop of gin?
