George Osborne has announced the new living wage and to achieve his goal of over £9 p/h by 2020, there has to be a pay rise of over 6% each year of the minimum wage we have now. No way will RM give us that sort of rise which will mean the pay gap between us and the living wage (minimum wage) will decrease. Will new recruits like walking the streets in wind rain and snow when for the same sort of money you can sit in the warmth and look out at the poor postman doing his extended walk due to falling mail volumes and year round lapsing.
It will be interesting to see what the union gets for us. Several million people on minimum wage getting 6% pay rise will surely push inflation up from the 0.1% it is today.

Might be a good thing. How many posties would be tempted to leave if they had a lot more options? Main reason I stay is because as much as I hate it there just aren't any unskilled jobs out there that pay the same.
If we end up earning the same level as minimum wage I could perhaps go do something else that I want to do but can't afford to at the moment?!

The minimum wage is due to rise to £9/hr by 2020.
Even if we had no pay rises in the next 5 years we would still be paid 10% over the minimum wage.
And given that under 25s are exempt from this new minimum wage I doubt it is going to push inflation up at all because anything the poorest paid are given in wages will be clawed back (and more) by cuts in tax credits and benefits.
It is one of the most spiteful and dishonest budgets ever.

Age 18 £9.36/hr ... £9.89/hr ... £10.40/hr
Delivery Supplement is currently £23.58, so an extra 60p/hr on top of each of those.
(That's the info taken from the latest job applications)
Overtime Rates:
1st 10 hrs £10.77/hr
Over 10 hrs £10.42/hr
(That's worked out from my own wage slips, pretty sure that's right)
