Our Delivery office is closed. what next?

Post by postiewhite »

Due to a fire saturday on the road where our vans go in and out we couldnt deliver so posties were told to go home and make up their hours next week,I was asked to go to another DO which I did.
Now apparently because of the fire the roads are still closed today as the building is unsafe so maybe there is a possibility our DO will also be closed for most of the week.
Where do us posties stand on this? I mean they cant send 50 staff to other offices all week, they only sent 2 on saturday(which was latee told by a fellow postie I should have just gone home as it wasnt our fault.) I know RM can probably ask you to make your hrs up in another DO but surely it has to be all of us or none?

If your are sent home without being asked you don't need to make up the hours
It doesn't need to be all or none

If they ask you to go home and make up the hours then you need to work them back, as you had voluntarily went home

Basically if you don't want to work them back just say you are here for work and stay until you either finish your hours or are sent home

And also if being sent to another office, start at yours on time and finish at yours on time

Also unless you've got business use insurance for your car, RM need to provide you with transport to and from your home office (without the business use insurance to go to another office from yours, if you get pulled over the the old bill you might get nicked for driving without valid insurance)

So if I get asked to go to another DO tomorrow and they havent asked anyone else I have to go providing they provide me transport to and from my normal workplace? I cant refuse and suggest to make the hours up or stay at my office.?

you have to go, you can't refuse as it's a reasonable request. You can offer to go home and make up the hours but that decision is up to the dom.

As a secondary there is absolutely no way that your office will be closed for upto a week. You will find alternative arrangements have been made, most do have contingency plans to share nearby a nearby do in the event of something like this happening
