LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
How far can a line manager go when they start questioning? Do i have to answer him? I thought a line managers job is to instruct not question? If line managers are allowed to question what is classed as reasonable? I once told this line manager that if he wanted to question me then he had to go through the union rep. is that a sufficient and reasonable reply by me?

Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
I worked over today and have done so all week, he questioned what time i left the office when i went on delivery, he seen me leave the office i also signed out, he also asked me how long i had spent throwing in another walk which is not on his section, i told him i did'nt know. He is standing in for the regular manager who is on sick, have no problems with the regular manager. An unusual week this week, treble household and five candidate leaflets for the election, takes time to put together, , i will not be doing it for nothing.dodgyinlaws wrote:How far can a line manager go when they start questioning? the only decent managers in my office for a long time were moved on last year and have been replaced with the most useless pair of morons I've ever come across. Smile at him while telling him to FCUK himself in your mind then.

Legitimate questions from him unfortunately, though depending on his tone could be construed as bullying,

Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
The trouble is that they are looking for any excuse to lose staff. The managers also know their days are numbered and will soon be replaced by workplace coaches (cheap managers). I too have known decent managers - they have all said they would rather be posties if it wasn't for the money....there's the rub!bitterpill wrote:the only decent managers in my office for a long time were moved on last year and have been replaced with the most useless pair of morons I've ever come across. What he will probably be trying to get at is whether it was the election material that caused the ot or not, as if there was no election material and you would have been able to complete on time then ot is not supposed to be paid in that circumstance

Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
That works both ways - If there is less mail, the election material can be absorbed and the postie finishes on time, any more mail and excess mail o/t is the reason for going over.zx135 wrote:dodgyinlaws wrote:I worked over today and have done so all week, he questioned what time i left the office when i went on delivery, he seen me leave the office i also signed out, he also asked me how long i had spent throwing in another walk which is not on his section, i told him i did'nt know. Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
We have had no guidance or communication in our office from management regarding the delivery of election leaflets. Staff have been claiming overtime if the election leaflets combined with the regular mail takes them over their time. Think management find the leaflets an annoyance and just want the stuff delivered. If management start quoting that election leaflets absorbed in the regular mail should not be claimed as overtime then staff will only work until their time and quite a few of the leaflets will not get delivered, unless the management want to do it. I have been claiming over on average 1 hour and 30 minutes a day this week with the combination of election leaflets and regular mail.zx135 wrote:dodgyinlaws wrote:I worked over today and have done so all week, he questioned what time i left the office when i went on delivery, he seen me leave the office i also signed out, he also asked me how long i had spent throwing in another walk which is not on his section, i told him i did'nt know. Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
He started quoting me prep rates and how long it should take me to deliver my households and election material today, never had a work time learning on this matter and never been coached aswell, told him again if he wanted to question me he should go through the union. As for his tone i'd say it was an attempt by him to get me to lose my temper and say something i might regret.zx135 wrote:dodgyinlaws wrote:I worked over today and have done so all week, he questioned what time i left the office when i went on delivery, he seen me leave the office i also signed out, he also asked me how long i had spent throwing in another walk which is not on his section, i told him i did'nt know. Re: LINE MANAGERS QUESTIONING
The simple question in that case would be if you didnt have election leaflets how much overtime would you have claimed today, thats the amount you amount you should be claiming, your rep should also have explained that to you as well as your managerdodgyinlaws wrote:We have had no guidance or communication in our office from management regarding the delivery of election leaflets.
