Part time overtime

There is a full timer off sick and a part timer is getting overtime to cover his duty. How does this work. Can the manager just ask his favourite part timer so he gets full time wages or does it go on seniority?

There is no hard and fast re but it should be dished out fairly, in our office we work an aggregrate system so that everyone regardless of seniority or brown nosing gets a fair share if they want it

Not in my office. The part timer only gets paid the hours he works. If it's an easy day (or he's quick, stupid etc) and he completes in 7 hours, he only gets one hour overtime (normally gets paid 6 hours a day).

Yes

No it's different in different offices some will pay the full shift some will only pay the hours extra worked

He was asking about the pay though not the hours and even then though the dom might want to get other ft staff to cover part of the indoor work to reduce the amount he pays out on ot

Same thing applies. He gets paid the hours he works.

I've covered duties without even knowing that the duty holder is full time.

In an ideal world full-time reserves cover full-time absence, part-time reserves cover part-time absence, doesn't always work out but that's the plan a rep should try to work with, if you have to use a part-timer to cover a full-time duty you should try to make sure they're getting full-time hours for the duration. Members should play their part as well though, don't short change your mates by undercutting and offering to do it for less, stand together and stand your ground, if the work is there, it needs to be done and it needs paying for.

In an ideal world it would be as ft says but in my old office a part timer would often cover a full time duty and only on part time hours, either the prep or sorting time or both would be lapsed and covered with existing full timers by getting one to prep and the sorting time just added on to the existing sorting.
