Hi All

Can anyone post documentation regarding paternity leave?

My mates leave started Saturday when the little one was born but unfortunately the baby has to stay in hospital for a week.

Can my mate claim this week back? Or take it as special leave? Then begin the paternity leave when his son is back home?

FWIW his partner is also a postie.. he wonders if he could use some of her leave?

you dont have to take paternity leave has soon has the baby is born you can take it 3 weeks later or even 9 weeks later

Bit late for that advice as the op's mate has already started his paternity leave, maybe help him with his next child though...

Also you can't take ordinary paternity leave 9 weeks later.

OPL should be taken within 3 months of the child's birth (or in adoption cases, the date
of placement).

Ordinary Paternity Leave
You could get either 1 or 2 weeks. You’ll get the same amount of leave if your partner has a multiple birth (eg twins).

You must take your leave in one go. A week is the same amount of days that you normally work in a week, eg if you only work on Mondays and Tuesdays a week is 2 days.

Start and end dates

Leave can’t start before the birth. It must end within 56 days of the birth.

You must give your employer 28 days’ notice if you want to change your start date.
