Podyfred Kaingan has a new task in hand.

Apart from being the operations manager at a company in Laban Rata — a stopover for hikers before their journey to the summit — he is also now a designated postman.

Responsible for ensuring the mail, postcards and documents for Mount Kinabalu climbers get delivered, Kaingan and his colleagues in Mountain Torq will be the link for these climbers to their loved ones back home.

Mountain Torq has been appointed by Pos Malaysia as its licensed agent to handle its post box, the first installed at such height in the world.
The post box was erected at the Pendant Hut in Laban Rata, located at 3,289 metres above sea level, on Feb 8.

It officially launched its service the next day.

“On the first day, about 100 postcards and letters were dropped into the post box.
