Slips and trips are the largest cause of accidents which cause absence in our business. Since April 2014, slips and trips accounted for 35% of absence accidents.

Winter weather increases the likelihood of slip and trip accidents, so we’re asking our Ops teams to focus on footwear checks. Make sure that you have the right footwear for your role, and that it is in good condition. Please carry out the following checks need to be carried out:

Only Royal Mail issue footwear is being used (except where medical exemptions are approved)
Soles must have sufficient tread and have no splits
Laces checked for wear and fraying.
If your shoes need replacing or you are having problems wearing them, report it immediately to your line manager who will take the necessary and appropriate action.

By making sure we are properly equipped and clothed to deal with the hazards posed by slips and trips we can take a step towards reducing the risk of such accidents.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

One of the worst shoes were the RM supplied cat trainer, anything slightly slippy and you slipped.
