redundancy payment deductions
can anyone enlighten me that when, or did royal mail scrap the statutory retirement age of 65 then anyone who was taking evr was not to be deducted the months wages for every year after you reached sixty four and a half. as i am now with supply chain and we have now split with royal mail and are with post office now would that agreement still stand with us as we are being told by post office that we would be losing a months wages for every month after anyone has reached 64 and a half, as taking myself as an example 65 past in october, agreement to be reached by end of march and that would effectively mean that if i was to take evr after 26 years service, would mean going out with 1 years wages, hopefully this was scrapped when the statutory retiral age of 65 was scrapped and the two years pay would be in place for me and others in the same situation

Re: redundancy payment deductions
I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it was from the 1 October 2011, when the Government scrapped the Default Retirement Age (65), which meant that people could work on indefinitely, at least as long as they were fit.

Re: redundancy payment deductions
If you look up statutory redundancy pay if you are over 41 years of age you are entitled to 1.5 weeks pay for each full year of service. There are no reductions once you pass a certain age.
However you need to look at the current agreement under MTSF rules agreed between Royal Mail and CWU, or in your case Post Office. It may be that the rules have not been changed to reflect there is no longer a statutory retirement age as far as redundancy is concerned.
If they have not been changed then the CWU need to get their ass into gear.

Re: redundancy payment deductions
You're right, I was about to retire at 65 on the 11th of December 2011 when the rules changed and I worked on for a further 3 years until 28th December 2014. I was waiting for the option of a final day when I got a letter from the DWP about my OAP and realised that I needed to ask what date I could leave and was then told there was no leaving date, which I didn't up until then.baldrick wrote:I'm not 100% certain, but I believe it was from the 1 October 2011, when the Government scrapped the Default Retirement Age (65), which meant that people could work on indefinitely, at least as long as they were fit.
