Post box Timeplate Phone Number Changes

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

No. 832/14
Ref: 532
Date: 23rd December 2014

To: Branches with POSTAL Members

Dear Colleagues

Post box Timeplate – Phone Number Changes

Due to recent changes in Consumer Legislation the Royal Mail contact details on all Post boxes will have to change. This means that customers will no longer be able to use the 08457 740740 phone number currently displayed on Post box Timeplates.

A number of Timeplates have already replaced the old number with the new 0345 number as part of Collections on Delivery and Business as usual activity.

However in order to become fully compliant with the new legislation there is a need to apply a temporary 03457 740740 phone number sticker to the Post box Timeplates which have not yet been updated. This will ensure the obsolete 08457 740740 number is covered over and no longer displayed.

The current plan is to deploy the stickers on the remaining Post boxes from Monday 12th January 2015 with a due completion date of Friday 16th January 2015. WTLL sessions will be scheduled during w/c 5th January 2015 to update our members accordingly.

Any enquiries to Bob Gibson’s Office, quoting reference 532, Email address: hnutley@cwu.org or mstewart@cwu.org

Yours sincerely

Bob Gibson

Postbox Timeplates - Phone Number Changes
Action is required to ensure the Business is compliant with Consumer Legislation changes

What does this mean?

We must ensure that all our Postbox timeplates display the correct Royal Mail contact details, in order to comply with recent changes in Consumer Legislation.

As part of those changes we are no longer able to use the 08457 740740 phone number currently displayed on many of our Postbox timeplates. We have already replaced a number of timeplates with ones showing the new number as part of Collections on Delivery and Business As Usual activity.

In order to become fully compliant we need to apply a temporary 03457 740740 phone number sticker to the Postbox timeplates in each unit which have not yet been updated, These will ensure the obsolete 08457 740740 number is covered over and no longer displayed.

These stickers will be displayed until the business has completed Collection on Delivery revision in your unit, replacing the remaining timeplates with new ones as part of the deployment activity.

The process

A full information pack with ‘How to Guides’ will be sent to all unit managers explaining what action needs to be taken.

It is key that the collection driver checks each Postbox timeplate to evaluate if a sticker is required. For example, if the phone number displayed starts with 0345 then a sticker is not required. ONLY timeplates that are still displaying the obsolete 0845 phone number need a sticker.

When applying the sticker the driver must ensure they do not cover the Postbox serial number.

We will supply sufficient spare stickers in case replacements are needed at a later date.

We plan to deploy the stickers on the required Postboxes from Monday 12th January 2015 with a due completion date of Friday 16th January 2015.

The collection driver will be required to confirm to the Unit Manager upon return that this task has been completed for all of the Postboxes required on their collection.

If you have any questions regarding this please speak to your line manager or CWU representative who will be happy to assist.
