Pregnancy and poor attitudes at work!

Hi there
It's my first post as I'm so bewildered to the treatment I'm receiving at work. I'm pregnant but still doing my shift bar lifting heavy bags etc. I've been told twice now if I can't do my Job I shouldn't be doing the shift, asked for help to lift something heavy and told "well I'm. Not doing it, who do you think you are". These are just the nicest ones.
Is this the norm in Royal Mail? I know RM can sometimes be a 'mans' environment but I feel some of the attitudes (from fathers also) are just draining and I don't know whether to man up or try and get the office educated?

Thought employer was meant to do a risk assessment on being told an employee is pregnant.
You might need to check or someone on here will know.

The management attitude at our place was very much that it was up to the mum to decide what she felt able to do, and let management know this. That does take some balls to stand up for yourself like that and thankfully there were enough fussy old mother-hen types (myself included, suffered enough with the wife's suffering plenty of times to be sympathetic!) so no heavy boxes were lifted or was felt obliged to work beyond their limit.

Do stick up for yourself and pity the daft sods who can't comprehend your situation. I don't think there's any point trying to 'educate' them, just be firm in what and how much you are willing to do - the kid comes first, everything else is less important, especially some colleague having a hissy-fit about having to carry a few boxes!

Employers have three specific duties:

1.To carry out a risk assessment. As soon as it is known that an employee is pregnant, a risk assessment should be carried out on their job.

Risk assessment should:
Identify all significant hazards to health and safety
Assess the risks they pose
Implement necessary effective control systems
Inform, instruct and train employees
Check the system works
Review the system controls and plans

2.To make temporary changes to working conditions and/or working hours to avoid exposure to health risks. If, having assessed a duty, the employer identifies a risk to a pregnant woman or an unborn child, they must provide alternative work which does not present any risk. Where a risk is identified as being the result of shift-working, the employer must provide alternative working patterns which do not
present a risk to the mother or unborn child.

3.To send an employee home on full pay if suitable alternative work cannot be provided. If suitable alternative work is offered, it is expected that an employee will undertake such work. Should a woman refuse to do so unreasonably, she would forfeit her rights to be sent home on full pay.

yorkie or cage full of mail from mail centre or from post office, she collects mail from post office. And pushes full yorkie up and down pavements.
