how long is your walk? (Distance)

Post by lmc »

Just curious to know how long each persons walk is?

I'm still fairly new to Royal Mail and do a HCT duty,I was always told it was roughly 8 miles but I felt it was longer so I used an app called map my walk and it calculated it at 24km which is nearly 15miles.

I now don't feel so bad about having sore knees at the end of the day and feel I have earned a take away tonight! :dance

It's unlikely to be 15 miles.
To do that in 4 hrs you would have to walk at an average of around 4 mph, taking into account dead time at doorsteps you would need to be doing around 6 mph travelling speed with your HCT, that isn't possible unless you're Superman or The Flash (behave yourselves).
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

I measured my walk on a Wednesday and it was nine and a half miles and that was in the summer, I use a van.

She has to decide every day between a round of 25 miles, hiking through the steep mountains on foot, or one of 43 miles, some of which she has been able to cover by bicycle since a mountain road was built last year. Each route covers four of her eight villages and she alternates between the two.

Oh no do you think I am being a little optimistic believing the accuracy of the app?

The curry has already been ordered now so i'm not changing my mind.lol

That included the distance from DO to my starting point and back,up and down every path etc.it said I was averaging 6.1km an hour overall,I know when not delivering I am quite a fast walker and did get quite lucky today with packets and not a lot of 739 writing.

I will maybe try a different app tomorrow and see how that goes :)

My round is 39 miles long in the van. It is a rural though so lots of driving up long driveways and you can drive over a mile in between houses. Takes me 5 hours on a busy day.

Apps can be iffy as can pedometers

i put the "sportypal" app on over 2 days as battery wouldn't last, my loops clocked at 13 miles, dare say oppos are slightly more too as i'm the only driver,
a bloke once got arse on when a leave reserve clocked his as the shortest in an our area cos he used to leave a load in everyday, dangerous apps but probably more accurate than geo-route!
actually on about it today, our onion rep once said those "more efficient should take more" :arrrghhh

Too long ! No time has been built-in for waiting to cross a busy dual carriageway 4 times a day , or waiting at traffic lights etc. talking to customers, writing slips or going back and forth to neighbours so a 4 hour walk on georoute actually takes about 45 minutes longer , as for distance I don't know but we drive 11 miles a day.
Why are lino's paid full-time ??

I cover 2 rurals. One van clocks 25 miles and the other clocks 20 miles. The 20 miles one has part of a road where you deliver by blocking it. Which one do you think takes longer by an hour?

Tried a different app today and got 23.1km.

I couldn't understand why so different so i checked the map for yesterday and realised I had left it on after my shift when I walked up to the bakers :)

The best way to check is by using a G.P.S. watch. I used one once to prove to a manager that the walk was considerably longer than he was led to believe ;) it measures your every move, including dead time ;)
