If Scotland votes 'yes' then Royal Mail will surely welcome this as an ideal opportunity to abandon its loss making operations in the sparsely populated 'foreign country' north of the border.
The cost of sending a letter from London to Edinburgh will then increase by 83%, rocketing from 53p to 97p ( but as London to Edinburgh is about twice the distance of London to Paris it would still be good value )

actually you RM will have a huge savings on cost as well, no need to sell of the Scottish operations SNP are going to re nationalise it

You could also look at it another way! An independent Scotland doesn't need to conform with E.U. regulations. Therefore a re nationalised "RM" could monopolise ALL mail deliveries. Just a thought.

Of course, the really important questions is if its a yes do we let Scottish Posties stay, and if so what colour will they become, and where will I post RMScotland News Stories - in competitors maybe.

How is it going, reading the comments, hows TNT doing down south. With all the savings with the Scottish Mail becoming a service again I am sure the RM directors and the CWU will give you all more pay and better conditions of work. I see the MPs are sharing the pain of austerity with you all.

life is good, moved on from Royal Mail few years ago, cashed my shares in when I left, earning less money now but kids have moved on, stress free.
Anyway saw a runner a few weeks ago,he was off sick and hobbling like an old man, horrific to see.
Those who want to leave, for me it was the best decision I made, actually walked into a higher paid 5 day a week job. Now work 2 part time jobs with job satisfaction and a life, can do that as kids have moved on. Working 4 days a week, soon be able to afford a 3 day week.
Why am I posting here, well #Indyref2 and #dissolveTheUKunion is going to happen and look forward to a Scottish Republic Mail service, all what we said would happen in 2014 is sadly happening, so for the Scottish Mail workers things are going to change for the better. 97p for a letter to Scotland, we can afford that with all our natural resources.
Oban was my delivery office, running like clockwork now like the strong and stable Westminster government, not many original posties left.

What are you talking about. Scotland will vote to stay part of the United kingdom AGAIN. So will I AGAIN. Why do you think an English government will give us independence now= because they have taken all the oil and gas. No way, us scots will hang on to get what we are due in pensions and welfare and we are going to suck yous dry for every penny, just like you did to our oil wells. That being said I'm proud to be Scottish and British.
