Logging on to the Royal Mail share site

Post by fly-catchers »

Not sure if this is the same site as you had to join when you got your free shares? But whether you put in your details where you have forgotten your password (which I have!) or registar for the first time I just get the message "please check your details"! But the only details you have to put in at that stage is your surname, date of birth and NI number- all of which are correct. But cannot progress! Any suggestions...

Give them a ring, the details of the helpline are on the paperwork they sent you. I did that and they got me back online. Very helpful.

If you need any further help with your Employee Shares or logging onto your Employee Shares account, you can call the helpline on 0800 012 12 13 (or +44 121 415 0268 if you are calling from outside the United Kingdom). Opening hours are 7.30am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, excluding UK bank holidays.

I would rather keep the money for a rainy day than tie myself into a scheme which is doomed the share's will not make their highs ever again.

You are not obliged to buy shares with the money you put into the scheme. Why do people not read the paperwork?
At the end of three years, you can choose to have your savings back, if the share price has performed as dismally as you predict. You literally cannot lose money.

If, however, you save £2.50/week over the 144 weeks of the scheme, you would have total savings of £360. You are permitted to buy shares with that money, at a price of £3.60 each. So you could use the money to purchase exactly 100 shares.

Even if the share price has swung up and down, but sits at around today's level of 425p at the end of the scheme, why would you pass up the opportunity to make an instant £65 profit ??? :arrrghhh You won't get that sort of return by sticking £2.50 a week in a high-street savings account!

It's all part of a plan to gradually change a culture of 'them' and 'us' that has held the business back. The theory being, that when people have a financial investment in the organisation they work for, they have a vested interest in making the business successful. Because the share price will rise, and those same people will see a rise in the value of their investment.

It works, too.

I overheard a bunch of RM drivers discussing the scheme today, and all were planning to put varying amounts into the scheme, ranging from the minimum to the maximum permitted sums. Two years ago, these same people would have been drinking their coffee and gobbing off about the spivs in the City who gamble with our pensions, using our money to make a fast buck trading shares. Somehow, things look different when you have 729 shares in the company, worth over £3000 :nervous
